In addition to the stunning rainforest, the rock face of the escarpment is home to a variety of orchids, ferns, vines and rock figs. The caves beneath provide habitat for microbats and sooty owls. The old growth forests below the cliffs are the home of koalas, greater gliders, the brush-tailed phascogale, the spotted-tailed quolls and 5 other species of owl.

Some of the other mammals on the property include the eastern grey kangaroo, mountain brushtail possum, eastern spotted-tailed quoll and long nosed bandicoot. Water dragons and pythons are common, and platypus have been spotted in the creek that runs through the property

Arguably the jewel in the crown of Belltrees is the 132 species of birds that have been recorded here. From the farmhouse kitchen window alone a diverse array of beautiful birds – some of them endangered are regularly seen including king parrots, finches, whistlers, treecreepers, spotted pardalotes and wompoo pigeons. Nest boxes and hides scattered throughout the property make it a bird watcher’s dream. The farmhouse is linked via verandahs to a hide nestled in a huge figtree giving extraordinary views of visiting birdlife including wompoo pigeons, topknot pigeons, regent and satin bower birds, catbirds, orioles, fig birds and the grey goshawk

A viewing tower close by is sited in line with the eyrie of a pair of peregrine falcons on the sheer cliff of the escarpment. This eyrie has been constantly occupied by peregrines for over 40 years and the valley is their hunting domain

Deep in the forest is ‘Quoll Cottage’ constructed of recycled materials including original timber slabs. Fully furnished and surrounded by soaring trees – a truly natural cathedral experience.
