Perfect EcoLiving with Food Forest, Creeks, Swimming Hole Waterfall
Overlooking our tropical rainforest Nature Refuge in the Wet Tropics World Heritage region of the Atherton Tablelands, this beautifully restored Queenslander on 43.7 ha of land has spectacular views of Mt Bartle Frere and the Coral Sea.

The timber home with polished floors has windows and verandas on every side to allow for excellent cross ventilation - no air-conditioning required.

A wood stove in the middle of the house keeps winter chills at bay and black wattle from the rainforest margins provides a sustainable source of firewood.
The house is self-sufficient for rain-water with 60,000 L of tank storage (plus an additional 20,000 litres for stock watering).

Upstairs are spacious living areas, three bedrooms (or studies), bathroom and separate toilet while downstairs has two more bedroom/studies, a second bathroom, linen cupboard, laundry, covered clothes lines and two spacious undercover carports.
Every room looks out onto garden or forest.

The old dairy has been converted into an extensive shed complex with a workshop, art studio and air-drying shelves to store cabinet timbers. A controller and inverter are installed, ready to connect to solar or wind power.

An above-ground, salt-water pool is joined to the house by a wooden walk-way which also provides wheelchair access to the front door. From the pool deck, Hinchinbrook island can be seen in the distance. Mount Bartle Frere is an imposing presence to the north-east, and the kitchen window looks east to the coral sea, Innisfail and the Barnard Islands.

The house is set in a hectare of gardens with native and exotic fruit and nut trees (Davidson Plum, Atherton Oak, various citrus, Abiu, Grumichama, five star, monstera, mulberry), azaleas, rhododendrons, gardenias, bromeliads, gingers, tree ferns and a vanilla vine. These are surrounded on three sides by 38 hectares of tropical rainforest and 4.7 hectares of fenced paddocks with agroforestry and yards for Dexter Cattle.

The Nature Refuge protects a rare type of rainforest (complex mesophyll vine forest of high rainfall, cloudy uplands on basalt - Regional Ecosystem 7.8.2), the heritage of the Ngadjon people and a significant section of the Topaz Regional Landscape Link between two arms of the Wooroonooran National Park (part of the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area).

Two permanent creeks traverse the property, with a waterfall and swimming hole just below the house. There are walking tracks for spot-lighting and exploring the rich biodiversity of this rare upland forest. Native mammals found in the forest include: green and striped possums, Herbert river ringtails, quolls, tree kangaroos, musky rat kangaroos, bandicoots and a wide variety of bird species including cassowaries, fruit doves, wompoo pigeons, king parrots, sunbirds, rifle birds, cat birds, friarbirds, honey eaters and kingfishers.

There is also a healthy frog population, beautiful Cairns Birdwing and Ulysses butterflies, Hercules moths, rhinoceros beetles and many other interesting insects.

Other details:
• Part of the nature refuge is zoned to allow ecotourism cabins.
• The 3 fenced grazing paddocks each have a water trough for stock - we have successfully raised 25 calves here.
• Basic cattle yards with neck-bail.
• Chook yard and movable chook pen
• Swing set
• House yard is fully fenced with dog fencing
